DIA MUNDIAL DA ALIMENTAÇÃO

A Biblioteca Escolar Ferreira de Castro, também uma biblioteca de idiomas, comemorou este ano o Dia Mundial da Alimentação em parceria com a disciplina de Inglês de 9º ano. 

Há imensas expressões/ palavras relacionadas com a comida na língua inglesa com um significado diferente da sua palavra original e algumas são realmente engraçadas.

Trabalharam-se as expressões inglesas relacionadas com alimentos e puderam-se interpretar expressões idiomáticas relacionadas com comida: food idioms.

Foram momentos bem divertidos.

Colocamos aqui uma tabela com a interpretação de algumas das expressões idiomáticas inglesas relacionadas com alimentos, que pode ser complementada com o visionamento desta animação:

A hot potato	um assunto controverso ou difícil de resolver e.g. The topic of abortion is a political hot potato in Portual.
piece of cake	algo fácil de fazer  e.g. Learning German at school was a piece of cake for Stuart. He lived in Germany for two years.
bad egg	alguém desonesto e.g. Peter is a real bad egg. He’s always starting fights and causing trouble at school.
(not) cry over split milk	lamentar algo que não pode ser remediado ou que já passou. e.g. You lost your wallet. There’s no need to cry over split milk!
cool as a cucumber	estar extramente calmo mesmo numa situação tensa e.g. Sarah was as cool as a cucumber in the interview and impressed everyone.
(not) my cup of tea	não ser do seu agrado/interesse e.g.  Sky diving just isn’t my cup of tea
something is fishy	algo está errado ou é suspeito e.g. There was something fishy about that accident
apple of his eye	alguém favorito e.g. She was the apple of her father’s eye. She got always what she wanted from him.
buy a lemon	adquirir  algo sem valor e.g. Peter bought a lemon and always had problems with the car.
go bananas	ficar excitado ou maluco e.g.he dog was going bananas  when the cat came into the house
be in a pickle	ter problemas e.g. We were in a pickle with a policeman last night.
a bowl of cherries	algo bom, agradável e.g. My life is a bowl of cherries!
